Abortion is the termination of pregnancy by the removal of the foetus. The effect abortion plays on the mental health of women seems to be a topic of utmost controversy with a dual nature of positive as well as negative effects. The aim of this review is to find evidence on the fact of whether abortion has a significant impact on the mental health of women. The review also aims to study how these issues manifest in the daily lives and aspirations of women. The papers that are reviewed are from the year 2000-2021 which provides a complete insight into the past as well as recent evidence for our research questions. 3 databases were used for the extensive search of research papers, including PubMed, PMC and Google Scholar. The results found from the review were of mixed nature to provide both negative and positive results in regards to abortion. Despite various efforts for finding evidence of this issue, it has been a real complication. Major problems arise in the measurement and standardization methods. Future studies are required on the topic with more standardized methods and correct scaling techniques to find conclusive proof.
