Abstract
This study is to determine the quality of groundwater in Oragadam, Sriperumbudur Taluk, Kancheepuram district and its suitability for domestic and drinking purposes. Oragadam is an industrial area which serves as a productivity ground for almost 40 industries. This industrial area is getting converted into a residential area where the residents are not aware of the polluted groundwater. So there is a must to determine the quality of the groundwater located in Oragadam. Groundwater samples were collected at different locations in and around Oragadam area and analyzed for their physico-chemical characteristics. The groundwater samples were collected from 50 locations and analyzed. In this study, 20 different physico-chemical parameters were investigated. The suitability of groundwater was examined and was compared with Indian standards. Then, by locating the sample points in the map, a base map is created and the parametric values of each sample were fed into their respective location with the help of GIS and various spatial distribution maps were created for each parameter
