Abstract
The combined piled raft foundations are effective foundations for the cases where the raft foundation fails to keep the settlement below the allowable limit. These piles can be replaced by stone columns for moderately rise buildings as stone columns are one of the most frequently used ground improvement method. The beneficial effects of stone columns are their ease and quick installation and low cost. By providing Geosynthetic encasement in stone columns, its performance can be increased by reducing bulging effect. The effect of parameters like radius of Geosynthetic Encased Stone Column (GESC) andspacing to depth ratio of GESCs on a Raft foundation is to be investigated in this study. For that 5 storey building founded on layered soil is to be analyzed in STRUDS to determine foundation loads. After fixing dimensions of raft, PLAXIS 3D work programme is to be composed for the analysis of combined GESC-Raftfoundation
