Abstract
Now a days a lot of renewable sources are being utilized to meet the increasing energy demand. Wind is one of the most widely utilized renewable source. The standalone operation of a wind turbine generating system is a difficult task due to the varying wind and variable load conditions. The main problem of the standalone wind turbine generating system is the power imbalance. Usually a remote area power supply system consists of a wind turbine, permanent magnet synchronous generator, a battery storage system and a mains load. The main objective of this work is to maintain the power balance of the standalone wind turbine generating system. The battery storage charge and discharge according to the power variations to maintain the dc link voltage constant. An uncontrolled rectifier is being used for the ac to dc conversion. The grid interface inverter is employed to transfer the energy drawn from the wind turbine and battery to the load. The proposed method is capable of achieving power balance of the entire system. Modeling and simulation study of the proposed system is carried out using MATLAB/SIMULINK.
