Abstract
When moving an object, friction force often comes into play, and must be surpassed to move the object. Various types of bearings are used to lessen this friction force for moving mechanisms such as machines. The bearing gets its name from the fact that it bears a turning axle or shaft, but those parts used for sliding surfaces are also called bearings. Bearings include rolling bearings, which use balls, or rollers called "rolling elements.Bearing life expectancy based on material fatigue can be calculated if the operating loads and speeds are known. These calculations must assume that the bearing is correctly mounted, lubricated and otherwise properly handled. It cannot take into consideration the effect of adverse operating conditions.
